Info about Benin: The not so significant country of Benin was once a very powerful Kingdom known as Dahomy. The region has its dark history of slave trading which taints its history with prejudice. Over the course of time Benin became a French Colony in the 1800’s and it took them around a century and a half to win their independence. The country adopted the name Benin in 1975 whereas it achieved its independence from France in 1960. The following years saw a great deal of political strife and confusion which led to many problems within the country. Today Benin is slowly but surely on its path towards overall development.
